    Mounting a GPS

I am wanting to mount a Lowrance 520 on a 20XF. I have just purchased a 8 inch windshield and a Ram Mount. What options do I have on this boat with the location of the unit and the puck? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I just saw a picture of a boat with the puck under the windshield. Does this cause interference on reception?

I havent found to have any interference at all. If I were to do it again I would order the Bassinracer mount and use that instead of the L brackets.

I was reading somewhere maybe on BBC, that you wanna try and keep the transducer and the antenna close in relation to each other, so when you set a waypoint it will be that much closer. I guess this would be paticulary true if you were offshore fishing and found something that was holding fish and you wanted to come back. Don't know how true it is, but it kind of makes sense

    Re: Mounting a GPS (chris20)

I've had two LGC3000's go out and the culprit was I had them mounted under the windsheild, 8 inches from the unit and that cause's (according to lowrance) some interference that will eventually make the gps anntenna go out. The right way to mount it for best results on finding specific rock piles is as close to your transducer as possible, that way when you go back to a weigh point you'll already should be and to see it with your sonar. I have a mount that will work great for that unit. http://www.billetboatproducts.com . Thanks Mark
