    Boat Insurance Question

Can you purchase just $300,000.00 Liability Insurance that many of the national tournaments require? My boat, motor and trailer are paid for and I don't want to carry damage or loss insurance. I had a liability policy once on my boat thru my homeowners policy. Just Wondering...

Im sure you can, but im wondering why not at least put some sort of coverage on the boat, it can be very minmal, then adding the liabilty is a very cheap add on to the coverage.

Kevin-I am pretty sure that is all I have on my boat is liability through State Farm. I have an old boat and paid for and didn't see the need to have anything else on it. It has been 4 years since I bought the boat and haven't paid any attention to the insurance since then, but I am fairly certain that is what I have.

Don't quote me because I have CRS, I think, If you have the same carrier for your cars and your boat, you have to carry the same amount of liability, but you can have just liability.

You should be able to get a rider on your home owner's insurance for the 300,000 liability....talk to your agent.

Most Insurance companies won't cover tournament fisherman. I sent you a PM with the info of my company they work with tournament fisherman and are a great company to deal with. I got my coverage for less then $500 a year and everything is covered. If they break into my house or hotel and steal all my gear its covered. It doesn't have to be in the boat. most insurance companies you have to tell them your fishing tournament and once you do that they will drop you or if you have a wreck or someone is hurt in your boat and they find out it was during a tournament they won't cover it. Be careful who you use.

    Re: Boat Insurance Question (slidellbayouboy)

I took some advice from members here and called Bob at Worlwide Marine and I am very glad I did. I have more insurance on my boat and gear than I do on my house and its a little over $400 per year and that is with $300k liability which is required for most tourneys.

If I drive your boat a wreck it my insurance will cover that also.

Checked with my Insurance Agent who has my Homeowners and Automobile policies. He put a rider on my Homeowners for $300,000.00 liability coverage on my boat & motor to satisfy some of the tournament circuits for a whopping $58.00 a year. Thanks for the tip "Rock".

Make sure they cover tournament fisherman. Last thing you want to do is have a claim they trun down and cost you in the pocket over all. Just a heads up.

State Farm considers tourney fisherman as long as you don't make over 60% of your salary for a year fishing.Check with a agent in your state though.
