    250 EFI thats been submerged

A local dive shop has a 250EFI about 2004 and the boat sank at the dock, the engine was removed, flushed and cleaned and the fuel tank drained and cleaned, the engine will not come up to full rpm, sounds like the guardian cuts in so they cant get onto a plane, what sensors can cause the guardian to cut in, the merc dealer had a quick look and now is not interested, they did try another engine wiring loom but no better , just wondering which sensors on the engine could cause that. It does not have smartcraft. any ideas.

Were both oil tanks drained and cleaned? The throttle position sensor could cause the motor to not throttle up. The stator could cause that. Siezing bearings could also cause motor to hold back.

A computer diagnostic would be in order. This will require a working knowledge of "correct data ranges", since there may be a sensor involved that is reporting "inaccurate, but WITHIN REASONABLY RANGED information". We refer to this as a "Sensor Failed In Range".

Also, depending on the ECM utilized on the engine.... ECM's are commonly FLOODED with water after submersion. Disconnect and remove the ECM.... shake it, and listen for water "sloshing" around inside. If water is present.... it's likely "toast".
