    fault code history

I was told that to print a fault code history and a run time history report on a 2005 250xs, that the motor has to be hooked up to the boat. Why is this? I just don't understand that if you can see the info on the pc when it is connected to the ECM why you can't actually print it out. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

What you've been told is "partially accurate".

In order to obtain a PRINTOUT (or read) the ECM/PCM information or History, all of the following requirements must be met:

-PCM must be attached to an appropriate COMPLETE engine, preferably with no new "fault generating" concerns

-A fully charged engine cranking battery must be connected to this engine.

-A functional keyswitch harness must be connected, to signal the engine to "power-up" the ECM/PCM

-The Computer Diagnostic System must be connected to the engine with the appropriate adapters, and the engine must be properly identified.

It "is" possible to accomplish this "off the boat", although most Service Technicians may be hesistant to do so (perhaps due to time required, and/or lack of knowledge on how to properly accomplish it).

Well that's what has got me. He told me how many hours were on the engine, which cylinder got hot, how many hours I had gone over 5700 rpms, and various other things. So I guess I am confused as to how he can get the info onto a pc, but not print it out. Thanks again!!

More than likely, they either do not have a printer configured to their laptop, or haven't learned how to accomplish this.

I find that a shared network printer (at the service counter) works quite nicely over a "wireless" connection (pretty handy, too).

Thank you Don. Your information is worth millions!! I will be calling you about a MercMonitor very soon. It will need to be compatible with a Lowrance LMS 520C. So that I can run the GPS speed to it. Thanks again!!

When you contact us... be sure to know "what outputs" your Lowrance supports (NMEA-0183 Version, and whether you have NMEA-2000 compatability). With all the units on the market today... there's just no way I can memorize all of them (and once they've been updated.... it changes anyway).
