    Multiple MAP Sensor Failures?

Don- I'd like to tap into your vast experience. My Optimax 250XS suffered a MAP sensor failure at 102 hours. It ruined a multi day fishing trip. Dealer replaced it under warranty and did the 100 hour service at the same time. Fast forward to 114 hours and it happened again. Same MAP sensor failure and it happened on the second day of a four day trip. FYI- I am Mr. Meticulous in every way- only 90 octane recreation fuel with additives, etc.

I do a lot of +100 mile days in remote areas. Breaking down is a major no-no. Do you have any ideas other than replacing it again and keeping my fingers crossed?

Re: Multiple MAP Sensor Failures? (FishinMcNut)

A couple of "might seem off the wall" questions (they are related, however):

    What oil are you running?

Have you looked down inside the intake to ensure that there is no debris down in the bottom (such as a yellow plastic plug that came from the center hub of the flywheel)?

MAP sensor harness been checked for nicks, cuts, abrasions, shorts or open circuit problems?

Metal tang retainer securing the map sensor in place properly? It will be loose, but should not be able to hammer "up and down" in the intake.....

    Reeds inspected?

Did you obtain a PRINTOUT of the "Freeze Frame (Fault) History"?

Don, nothing is "off the wall". I very much appreciated the way you approach issues. That's why I asked!

Thanks for providing a starting point to begin trouble shooting. I'll check the stuff I can myself before bringing it in and mention the rest to my dealer.

The ONLY oil it has tasted is Premium Plus!

Great call as usual Don. It was the yellow wire to the MAP sensor. It was chaffed and grounding against the block.

    Appreciate your experienced insight!
