The knock sensor does not take any actions.

Inside the knock sensor is a "crystal" that generates a signal based on vibration. It sends a "KHZ" signal to the module (detonation control module on most 2.5L engines), which is used to retard engine timing, and/or RICHEN fuel mixture, in the event that a "knock" is present (depending on engine serial number/design).

    Re: Don (EuropeanAM)

OK, now back to my 01 250 xb. I got the water pump and seals Saturday. There were two different face seals with the kit's. I have one soft plastic bag with seals and one hard plastic package that included the impeller and ass. of seals. The soft pack had a face seal that is smaller in size compared to the hard pack. The face seal that came out is the smaller size. When i replaced the face seal last week the thin lip of the face seal that touches the water pump housing was sucked into the pump housing, is this what is suppose to happen or should the seal remain on the top of housing. Just trying to figure out if seal that was in it and the seal i replaced last week was the wrong ones. If i go with the face seal that is in the impeller package (larger one) it may be large enough that it cant be sucked into the top of housing?Below is what i ordered form you if it will help and the motor ser# OT235906

    1 43026Q06 Water Pump Kit
    1 30206 Bolt
    1 817275A1 Housing, Upper

The face seals recently underwent a change to include a "wider lip" (in an effort to provide a better seal). The "wider" of the two seals you have is the "latest and greatest".

The seal lip is indeed to remain ATOP the pump housing.... seat the seal firmly against the housing with the tool provided in the 43026Q06 kit (same tool for both seals).

    Hope this helps......

OK, pump is in with out much help, pulled the poppet again and put two quarters behind the diaphragm and installed. Got up too 15psi at 3000 rpm sitting in the drum, would have went higher with more rpm. Thinking the spring is weak. Poppet and everything else looks good. Does this all come in a kit or separate.Would you replace it all or the spring?

    Re: Don (CRIMSONGAMBLER)

I personally would replace the following items:

GROMMET (the one that fits over the seat. Remember to make sure seat is well-retained in the block)

    Poppet (Plastic)

    Spring

    Diaphram

    BOTH gaskets.

One other note: Check to make sure the plastic poppet (prior to assembly) slides FREELY in and out of the rubber grommet (once it's fitted to the seat). If it does not, you may need to "campher" the fins on the plastic poppet with a file.
