My son took the ASVAB test this evening. He scored a 76. His recruiter said that is pretty good and that he qualifies for almost any position.

Get a breakdown of the score and meet with the recruiter. See what the Army has to offer. Then go talk to the Navy and Air Force. Said he could have done better if he would know anything about mechanics, didn't know any of the answers on that part.

What type of mechanics were they looking for ?
There are a few questions about mechanics on the test. He doesn't want to do that. I think they only want mechanics with their gallbladders.
Congrats to your son! If you would like to talk let me know I am a former Marine have some knowledge how to point him in the right direction no matter what branch of the service he may choose. Let me know if I can help

I could give him a few pointers on that subject...
If I remember right it is. When I was doing all of that alot was based on the GT score of the test.
My brother is a Recruter for the Natl Guard, he volenteered to go to Iraq and will be back on Leave this weekend. You got any questions let me know and i will ask him.![]()

+1 on the GT score. in the army when i was in that was the key to everything.
Barry while at the recruiters and he's considering options tell him to ask the recruiter what the CUTOFF SCORES are of the jobs he is interested in. You can make e-1 to e-4 in 18-24 months. With a little motivation and drive you can get selected to go to the promotion board for e-5(sgt). Then if you pass the board and most do you have to wait to meet the cutoff scores for promotion. If the cutoff is 998 you could have a masteres degree and not have enough points to get promoted. When i went in the cutoff score in my job was at 450 by the time i became e-4 promotable it was 525 so i made my e-5 in about 30 months. Also look at enlistment bonuses and duty stations of choice. let me know if i can help
Went meet the recruiter again this afternoon. He's going take his physical Wednesday and starts basic in August at Fort Leonard Wood. He will be a Combat Engineer. Gets to blow up stuff.
Damn why did he wait for middle of the summer for Basic??
Barry please tell your son thank u from me for his future services. Cause if it wasn't for people like him we prolly wouldn't be able to go fishin like we do. Thanks Barry!
