    Just had a visitor

Just met with the Army recruiter. No, they don't want a 52 year old retired cop. My son has been talking to him. Wants to see if he can join up and become a carpenter. Going take the placement test tomorrow. My baby has grown up.

A great choice...Coast Guard may even be better if he likes water...in the BO economy especially...all the best.

I respect your sons dreams, but Army, no telling where they may send him
once he signs up. USCG, Navy, Air Force, alot of up to date technology and
    it keeps growing.
    Good Luck

He's gonna take the placement test tomorrow. Once we have the score, we will see what the other branches have to offer.

If he has any questions about the Navy, send them my way. I'm active duty, been in almost 10years. Any questions about jobs, locations, etc. I'll be glad to help out.

Re: Try the Airforce I was in an engineering company in the army

I was in an engineering company from 1989 - 1991 and did rest of my time in the guard which back then I did the 2yr active and 4 yr reserves to pay for college. I was a heavy equipment operator 62E with carpenters, plumbers, electricians in my unit. Carpenter was pretty safe back then from seeing combat mostly did humanitarian missions.

Once you get to your assignement it depends on the unit you are in and your commander. I had a commander that was in love with jump school and he would send you if you even looked interested in it.

Go Airforce if you can same job just they treat their people better.

If you were Army or Airforce and Marines FT Leorndwood, MO use to be the post you would go to for training Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, heavy equipment operators, light equipment operators, truck drivers, combat engineers.

Army side of same training as airforce
When I went to advanced training I went to 62E school same school that the airforce people go through. Mean and down right not nice looking female drill sergents. Actually one did my tatoo at Faye's Tatoos outside the gates. Girls lets say the ford escort would raise up when they got out.

Army it was like basic training for 12 weeks. 1st 4 weeks was just like basic training except we could drink soda which we didn't have in basic. After that we got weekend passes and during the week we couldn't leave the training area. They had a PX, gym, and that was it. Got up 3am for PT with drill sergent walking up and down the glory hall banging garbage can lid, did PT then, back barracks to get ready for chow at 6am, stood in formation for until almost 7am and finally went to the chow hall. Lined up 7:45 am to get on a cattle car to go to training site which was clay fields with tin buildings. Now carpenters marched in formation to their tech school which was by the barracks After 4 weeks which was right before the 4th of July we got 1/2 a day off. Then that weekend we got our 1st weekend pass. Right before we graduated we had to spend 1 week in the field in fox holes playing army.

    Total training time 12 weeks.

    Airforce same school same training

Got up 7am made their beds at their dorms
They had nicer food like permanet party and were treated like permanet party
Took an airconditioned bus to same training site
After training took bus back to dorms
They were off until next morning like a regular job.
They didn't have to do field exercises or pass a Physical fitness test to graduate
    Total training time 8 weeks

Same pay, same training, and they did the same thing we did.

Nothing wrong with the army especially if you want to go into a combat mos.

The airforce just treats their people better.
