    Reman powerhead options?

A friend of mine called me today said his 250 XS wasn't running right. He took it to our mechanic and said that No. 6 had no compression. What are his options as far as getting a reman? Are there some builders to stay away from? Is a Mercury reman any better than a small company? He is just sick and needs some direction on this.

Re: Reman powerhead options? (Mike Z.)

Options include: Rebuild current powerhead, Remanufactured Powerhead, or a New Powerhead.

There absolutely are people (and companies) that have no business building powerheads (let alone yours). Check the reputation of any company you or he considers.... references, track record, and of course.... not a bad idea to check their Better Business Bureau record.

There are many smaller engine builders that are certainly capable of building a powerhead for you that is equally as sound as a NEW one. That being said.... can the BACK the powerhead with a minimum of a one-year warranty? Where is that warranty honored? Does it include labor?

With a Mercury Remanufactured powerhead, you receive ONE YEAR, PARTS AND LABOR warranty- good at ANY authorized Mercury Dealer.

+2 what Don said If not the Merc reman option I'd recommend either Eric Simon or Wayne Worthy @ Hydro Tec as both shops have the skills, equipment, and the experience to do the job right. They are both great guys to work with as well as well
