    teal season

any of you louisiana boys fired up about teal season? From what i read its supposed to be another lights out season for us. It really got me pumped as i was out trying to catch a few reds in some marsh on the texas side of sabine lake and found a little honey hole that had probably a 100 or so teal sitting on the water and buzzing around. i'll be headin out west come the 1st to shoot some dove then its back home to get ready for 16 days of teal shooting.

As hardcore a duckhunter as I am, I've never went during Teal season. Maybe this year!

    Re: teal season (90xpress)

i love teal season, there's just nothing like having 40- 50 of them things about to squat in to the hole. just gotta make sure you have the thermocell on!

and we havnt had any outstanding years like we used to either. but we still get a bunch of birds, you just have to scout and know where they want to be. last year was probably the worst of the last 5 years id say, most people had hard times coming across good numbers but we stayed pretty consistant shooting limits most everytime out.

I made 32 hunts last year. I put more than my fare share of time in to scouting and hunting, trust me, we jsut dont have birds over here anymore. From what i hear, texas had one of there best seasons last year.

HLG i agree, i had one of the best seasons i have had in 10 yrs last year, the only thing that messed us up was when the water was falling it was magic, but the water rose right back up during the second split, My wife is about to run me off or throw away my rnt's

    Re: (lasabre)

i dont know about texas having one of our best seasons, it seemed like most days when we'd kill birds, nobody else would. except for the season openers and such, were always stacked with birds come the opener and the split opener. they just get sparse after that.

and lasabre, i agree with you on that. it sucked last year with all that high water, it stayed with us almost the whole first split and part of the second until we got some really good fronts to push the water out. it really spread our birds out and made it uncomfortable to hunt in a foot of water when the marsh grass is only 2 foot high lol.

i am pretty pumped about the 2 pintails this year though. i hate shooting your 1 sprig then watching more and more pour into the decoys the rest of the morning and all you can do is watch.
