Testing output of electronic oil injection pump

I was getting the four beeps every 2 minutes, and started troubleshooting, had a resevoir sensor so it was replaced, still same issue. I took the pump feed line of and turned the key after computer check beep and EFI charges, there was no oil from the pump?? I even tried to quickly run the motor to see oil coming the line of the pump and nothing? Is this a suitable way to test the electronic oil pump for output? I want to make sure before replacing a $300 plus dollar part??

    Any suggestions

    Thanks

    Welcome to BBC!

Before we go ANY further.... a word of CAUTION:

DO NOT disconnect the oil injection pump and then run the engine!!! Inadequate lubrication can (AND WILL) cause catastrophic damage.

We will need to know what engine you have (preferably including the serial number) to proceed.

Re: Testing output of electronic oil injection pump (EuropeanAM)

thanks for the welcome. I have a 02 225 EFI, I did not run the engine so to speak, only started and shut down to see if there was any oil coming from the pump. I had tested the electrical part to ensure power and there seemed to be voltage, but no oil. Is there a valid method to check if its good? I was gettting the warning beeps after five to ten minutes running time, but was running gas and oil mix for a rebuild breakin, so there was strong water stream, strong smoke and then I double checked the compression to make sure inadvertant damgage was not done.

I have the part number of the part 879892T05?

I do not have the serail number handy right now the boats at my shop.

    Thanks

To properly test the output of this oil pump, you would need the Computer Diagnostic System (or a DDT).

The pump can be activated via an "oil pump prime" sequence, and you can then monitor oil pump output.

From your description, you're likely going to find (in the end) that the problem was related to your OIL TANK (the float may be sticking).... or there is some open air space at the top of the tank which is triggering a "low oil level" warning after you've run for a while.

Low oil level after 20-30 minutes of runtime is usually an indication of a problem in the REMOTE oil tank feed system (faulty check valve in crankcase, loose caps, kinked lines, plugged pickup screen inside the Remote Tank, etc. etc.

Since you have opened the oil injection system to "attempt a check" for oil flow, it will be necessary to have the oil pump PRIMED properly before running the engine again.

BTW.... the ECM does NOT monitor the output of the oil pump. It simply tells the pump to run... in "counts" by modulating the ground to the pump.

Re: Testing output of electronic oil injection pump (EuropeanAM)

Thanks for the inputt, after a relaxing non fishing weekend, and some time to think, I ran the break in sequence to validate the pump...good to go, then I unbolted the tank and turned it upside down, once the float went to the top which was the bottom.....low and behold the alarm stopped in its sequence!!! I guess was just frustrated when I was troubleshooting and somehow had it in my head the float was not sticking.

I really appreciate your time. I will find out hopefully tomorrow as I only ran the engine for a short time with muffs and want to put it under a load before having a good warm and fuzzy. Thanks Again!!

    Good deal.

Now.... time for that new oil tank. If you have to flip the tank over to make the sensor/float work properly..... odds are 10:1 it WILL NOT properly notify you if you run low on oil! (Or you just won't believe it if it does).
