Turkey Creek

Heard they were lowering the lake. How low is it, can you get a big boat in, and how's the fishing? Any reports??

It is VERY low. The only place to put a boat in is at the bridge. I have heard reports of catches, but they say you have to be in the right spot and you can load the boat. I have also heard of people going (me included) and not doing very well. However, the GW's are keeping a close on eye on people and have written several tickets.

Thanks for the info. How low? I hope the game wardens are out there. If it's low, you know there is a good chance of catching alot if you hit the right spots and I would hate to see that place get beat up bad. How hard is it to launch at the bridge? I'd prob. bring my buddies aluminum boat with a 40 and leave my Cat at the house. Thanks, Bryan.

You should be able to launch it with no problem. It has been 2 weeks since I went. I didn't know they were lowering it. I put my 18' Champion in no problem with a 2 wheel drive. Unless things have changed drastically you should be fine. You have to up through the middle as you can't go around the edge of the bank like you can when it is at normal depth.

Bryan-I don't know how to tell you how many ft. low it is. I'll say this, I went to the other landing-go past the bridge a little and take a left. It might be King's-not sure. The water is low enough that it is a ways out there. That landing is blocked off and there is not enough water to go around the edge of the bank where you can usually run a little bit. But I am not expert enough to tell you how many ft. low it is.

I know a dude that went saturday witha procraft and a 150 and took him about 30 minutes to get his boat on the trailor it was so low. They only caught 4 fish. I heard they were catching good fish between 3 - 5#'s. Ya'll right about the GW though, they caught a dude with 50 bass by his self. With the GW being short handed I wish they could patrol it more cause I know the locals are hammering them. Wouldn't be a bad idea to shut it down completely when they have a drawdown.

    Re: Turkey Creek (rgbi)

They put 2 Ferriday guys in jail for having 38 bass on TC...was in the papers...

(Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents cited two Concordia Parish men for allegedly taking over the limit of bass on Turkey Creek in Franklin Parish on June 20. Casey W. Martin 27 and Edward R. Martin 41, both from Ferriday, were cited after being found in possession of 38 bass in their boat. The daily limit for bass on Turkey Creek is 10 per person. The bass were seized and donated to charity. The penalty for taking over the limit of bass is a fine up to $350, and jail time up to 60 days or both plus court cost. Both subjects will also be issued civil restitution citations for the value of the fish.

Hats off to LDWF. Great job! Turkey Creek is on a drawdown. The bass are stacked in the channels and easy to catch. Some bad people take advantage of the situation.)

I also heard at a recent bass club meeting here that TC will be closed 2 years...and they will upgrade a launch, clear wood above the bridge and clear a decent channel...could be a super deal if true.

I hope no thugs take out hundreds of quality bass during this time...any bass 3 pounds or more SHOULD BE RELEASED so we can have a stud lake in less than 2 years..no exceptions.

I disagree with it being a good deal. Part of the beauty of fishing Turkey Creek is the beauty of the trees and the fact that noone is running up and down the lake. A good ramp would be nice, but IMO the boat lanes and cutting the trees would hurt the lake's appeal.
