Bleed system hose by throttle plates

Don or anyone who can answer this. I was out on the lake today and when I went to let of the gas it the motor kept going at 2500 or so rpms. So I hit the kill switch ( which I hated to do BUT glad I had it ) and stopped and pulled the cowling off to see what was wrong. Well there are two bleed lines that run through the opening where the induction manifold meets the engine block going from one side to the other where the throttle plates are located. The lower line was caught in one of the plates keeping the motor from slowing down to idle. So I cut it off and took up the slack that it had to stay clear of the plates.
My question is can I get two longer hoses to route them away from the plates above or below that space and will it hurt my engine performance if they are longer than the two that are on there now??

Also My water pressure gauge is stuck on 16psi after the freeze here in Texas, do I get a new one or is there an adjustment to fix it..

My motor is a 1999 225 EFI OG825276 Thanks for any input

Re: Bleed system hose by throttle plates (TritonCowboy)

    Keith:

The bleed hoses that run behind the throttle plates should be securely tied in place with HIGH QUALITY tie-wraps. Likely, they were removed and not replaced (or simply broke).

Although you "could" lengthen the lines, I'd recommend sticking with the "intended" bleed routing.

As for the water pressure gauge.... if you've given adequate time for the lines/gauge to "thaw", and it is still stuck, remove the line from the back of the gauge. Blow "backwards" through the line (just to confirm that it's not plugged).

If the line is open (you can blow through it).... replace the gauge.

One of our BBC members came up with the idea of adding a "tee" right behind the gauge.... with a piece of line connected to the "tee" that extends down below the dash. Install a "golf tee" in the spare line when using boat.... remove golf tee (and blow backwards through the line) to remove water and prevent freezing.

Re: Bleed system hose by throttle plates (EuropeanAM)

    Thanks Don;
I think you are right about the last mech that rebuilt the engine. He forgot to put the tie wraps on all the bleed hoses . I will get the ties on them as soon as I get time this weekend.

About my water pressure gage. I forgot to mention that as I increased in rpms, while running on the water, the needle went from 16 psi to 26 psi so something was working it's just not set to zero when the motor is off.
Are you saying if the hose is clogged that it may be keeping it from going back to zero water pressure?
Also does the gauge work on water or air?
But I will do what you told me and disconnect and blow out the line AND put a blow out tube like you suggested. Thanks for helping me out

Water pressure gauge works on "water pressure".

If the gauge was moving (as if 16 psi=zero), you'll almost certainly need to replace the gauge.

Thanks Don, I will replace it this weekend. Also put a tee and blow hose for freezing.
Thanks again for your expert help
