    Catouachie

Fished Catouachie for a few hours this afternoon and only caught two small bass on brush hogs. Water was really low at Pier 90 and we had difficulty launching the boat without putting the trailer off the back of the ramp That canal immediately to the right of Pier 90 is now blocked about half way down. Dump trucks were pouring dirt as we fished I need to find a place to catch some bass!!!

They did that chit in Palourde and there was a helraisin over the "fences" being legal....Your tax dollars (fish) swim through the canal so to be private it was said they would have to shore up the canal, pump out "public water" and Public fish and fill it up on there own...Then its private

    Re: Catouachie (rusty202)

It's part of a big project to raise levees to hurricane 3 status. The Corp is using a section of the freshwater diversion levee as a hurricane protection levee. They made a road across the bar pit( the section of canal following Hwy 90), so the dump trucks can add clay to the levee that follows the canal. Probably during spawning season, they will build a big flood gate where that barge was in the main canal this summer for weeks driving pilings on the bank. The flood gate will connect each side of the hurricane protection levee, and will be closed when a storm approaches, ( will not be able to get in or out of pier90).
Somewhere along Hwy 90 the Corp found a big blue clay deposit. This is the type of clay suited to build levees. When the Corp gets finished getting all the clay they need, there will be a big deep hole. Ya will finally get to use some deep diving crankbaits if ya know what I mean.

Maybe a hurricane will wipe it out and they can start over with some concrete or asphalt or even gravel in the parking lot.

    Re: Catouachie (JOHN202)

How about a bull dozer instead of a hurricane. I wasn't wishing for one. I didn't start fishing until right before Katrina so I don't know what I am missing other than stories about how good it used to be.
