Having trouble with engine killing on cold starts.

My 2009 225 Pro XS keeps dying after I first put it in the water and start it to let it warm up. It acts like it is starving for fuel even after I pump the bulb tight. After several atempts it will finally stay running and will run fine until I shutdown again. Doesn't seem as bad as initial start-up but it does kill a couple times before it will stay running. As day goes on it gets to where it doesn't do it at all. No alarms on engine and runs fine when it stays running. Only took it out 3 times and same thing happened each time. Hope it is something simple and is an easy fix. Any helpful input would be appreciated.

You might want to start with the "basics".... such as "Compression, Spark test, and Fuel Quality/Delivery/Air & Fuel Pressures".

Spark plug inspection- replacement as necessary (if you've never put a set in it, it may be time..... IZFR6J plugs required).

Inspection of the air compressor and drive belt would also be wise (check for any runout on the compressor pulley, or a loose/worn drivebelt).

Computer Diagnostic might also be in order, to confirm all sensors are reporting "appropriate" data to the PCM (especially the Temp Sensors, IAT, MAP, TPS). Sometimes, a sensor fails "in range" (meaning it provides irroneous data for the current running condition, but the data is still within the "pre-programmed limits" that the PCM expects to see).

Sorry, I might not have noted but it is a brand new engine on a new boat.

Same recommendations apply.... regardless of "age or hours".
