Passed By A John Boat? True Story

Okay, What do you do when your riding along and a johnboat pulls up beside you? You give it more throttle right? What do you do when you realise that you are already running full throttle? Check your GPS... 64.2 mph. Then the guy smiles real big and waves at you, what now? With a look of horror on my face I jerk the throttle back and act like I was meaning to stop. At that point I was passed by about 5 of these johnboats. I looked at my brother and ask just exactly what was that? He was unresponsive. "History of our gambler" We bought this boat together to fish out of. It has never been set up for performance but it will still run out with two fat boys around 65 mph, 3 mph faster since I changed the prop. The engine sits way below pad and has no jackplate. ITS A FISHING BOAT. However we like to ride as fast as she will go and enjoy the ride passing quite a few other boats. While we are sitting there gathering our thoughts they come back! You could hear their props slapping the water,Throwing rooster tails, two inches of boat in the water. They Had Jackplates on these john boats and were raceing a skeeter! This poor guy was hammer down and surrounded by john boats. Being the true person I am and not wanting to hurt their feelings by out running them I slowly eased My gambler into the ramp and loaded it on the trailer.

Man did you ever post this in the wrong place. You will be getting plenty of advice on this issue and believe me none of it wll be good advice unless you go and trade that Gambler in on a Triton. You can also refer to another post on here about Skeeters. Need I say more?

Re: Passed By A John Boat? True Story (Pro Bass XL)

You just had to mention that they were racing a Skeeter huh!

I believe it though...I seen a guy the other day pulling about a 16' john boat with a tiller handle 150 merc opti on the back and about a 10 inch jackplate! I don't know that i'd wanna drive a 150 tiller handle!!!

Oh, and I don't know how fast he was going but if you were GPSing 64.2 then at least he wouldn't have been passing me after he passed you!

they had a little red boat with a fifty merc running 79. It was fiberglass so it didnt qualify in the johnboat arena.

I thought I missunderstood what one fella was telling me at the Oilman's Bass Classic this year but I heard 'flatboats runnin 72mph' and then turned my attention once again to the announcer. I thought BS but seems it's true. My bad dude.

Re: Passed By A John Boat? True Story (Pro Bass XL)

keep your gambler!! as the quality of your old gambler is still better than alot of today's boats, these guy's are probably a group running little merc's that have been worked over by jerry's marine and will flat out make most boats on here look stupid? these little motor's are pushing to the extreme but have very short life span's.. So don't feel bad, enjoy your g-boat and keep on fishing
