250 XB compared to 250 XS

I took my 2004 250 XS off my Blazer and installed a 2002 250 XB on it. The 250 XB came off my 2002 Bullet 21XDC. The XB is faster than the XS for sure.... They both have 1:75 TM gearcases and I decided to use the 27 Fury that I had been running on the Blazer with the XS, on the XB which is now mounted on the Blazer. I went for a ride today and I got 84.1 mph with the Blazer with the 250 XB at 6200 rpm indicated on my tach. The XS would get 80.4 at 5850 but it would occasionaly hit the limiter. The XB seems very smooth and feels stronger everywhere... Kind of makes me think I should have left the XB on the Bullet... I will be trying the Bullet with the XS on it tomorrow ....

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (canadablazer)

What is your rev limiter on your 250 XS ? being a 2004 is it 5700+ ?? That's a tough one to prop right.

I don't necessarily agree the 250 XB is faster than a 250 XS I ran head to head against my same boat type and same set up ( Stroker ) and had the my 2005 250 XS run faster top end and out of the hole. Now the 05 XS's rev limiter was moved to 6300 but it still runs best at about 5800 to 5950 RPM's. If you were hitting your rev limiter on the 04 XS a couple of times you could have been getting into the soft limiter and thus coming up short on MPH. There are a lot of other variables and maybe your XB just is a stronger motor, they are indeed great motors but I don't think it's just cut and dry 250 XB being faster/stronger IMO

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (esdbass)

Yes my 2004 has the rev limit of 5850 and it is tougher to prop than the 05 and newer ones. It does get to the 5850 limiter once in a while at 80.4 GPS. This 250XB is stronger than my 250 XS but maybe not all of them... This XB got to over 6000 easily and climbed to 6200 but it did not hit the limiter at 84.1 GPS. I never got that fast with the XS on the Blazer even with a 29 Hydromotive that kept me at 5800 rpm with a very light load at 83.3 GPS. Don,t get me wrong... my XS runs great and I really like it but so far it does seem that the XB is a bit stronger than my XS...

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (canadablazer)

Your comparison is correct.... but not really "fair"- since the two engines have different rev limiters, and the XB can spin that same prop nearly 500 RPM higher.

    With a 2005-> 250 XS/ProXS, it's a much more "fair" comparison.
Properly set up, they'll be close... very close. On a lighter hull, the Opti may very well take the edge.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's an interesting "shootout" for you to think about:

Rig two identical boats, same prop, one with the XS, and one with the XB. Drain the fuel system on both, and place precisely 10 gallons of fuel in each boat's tank.

Send them out racing.... straight down the river. In a hour or two, the XS equipped boat will return with the XB in tow (it ran out of fuel).

    Now, who's faster?

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (EuropeanAM)

Ran the Bullet with the XS today. I was running light load so I had my 28 Powertech TRO4 on .. It comes out really well and lifts the bow with less trim than on the Blazer. My water pressure guage seems to be not working and I got a warning beep for low water pessure with it set level to the pad. I lowered the plate to 2 inches below pad and the beeps never returned. I got 81.1 at 5750 and did find it handled a bit twitchy with the motor that low. I will be replacing my wp guage and going up on the plate. The Bullet seems to like the XS and the Blazer seems to like the XB...

I'm Not a Bullet set up guy but I'd try and block off the two top holes on your Torque Master case as Don has outlined on this forum then go back and raise your plate and then try a 4 Blade B/C Performer or a Hydromotive Quad 4 in a pitch that had you running 5650 WOT. At 5750 you are hitting your limiter and if it's anything like the newer motors somewhere before that the soft limiter is kicking in and your loosing power? I believe Don would say 15 PSI at WOT would be a safe water pressure

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (esdbass)

That's what I'd say on water pressure (18 psi or higher is best, however).

I agree that you may need to plug off "up to four" side water pickups on each side if you're running a Torquemaster.

You may also see some good results from a 28P Bravo 1 (bullet cut).

I think we all know that the Optimax gets better fuel mileage...however the XB sounds like a Merc should, I would swap in a heartbeat!

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (RobShaw1)

My XB runs incredibly smooth and the sound is incredible to wild for sure. I think I will have an easier time selling my Blazer around here if I had an XS on it; so if you really do want to swap for a perfect shape XB .... let me know ....

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (RobShaw1)

Rob:Talk to Wayne Worthy @ Hydro Tec about his tuner in your 250 XS. An XB sounds like a 4 stroke in comparison after the tuner swap

My HT R&D has one in it and it's just stupid bad arse sounding

Give Hydro Tec a call though about specific installation instructions based on your year 250 XS if your thinking of doing this though

I just bought a 2003 Ranger 521 with a 250 XB, what can i expect as far as top end speeds with this motor and boat. It is all stock right now. Does anyone else have this combo that can shed some light on a good setup for it? Also, other than the premium fuel, is there anything I need to know about the pro XB?

Re: 250 XB compared to 250 XS (canadablazer)

Dead stock, a 2003 to 2006 year 250XS is slightly stronger than a 250XB. However, there are very ver stock 250XB's. The hood scoop mod that most everyone has done to their 250XBs make them slightly stronger than any 250XS.

Did you mean 2003 to 2005 ? 2006 not so sure but I think the 08's on are much closer

Yes Ely. Which is why I said 2003 to 2006, not through 2006. When they changed to regular gas, they lost a little power.

I love my xb. I wouldn't give that guy up for anything. Lol... It can drink all the gas it wants as long as his behind keeps performing. Lol
