    I have a question??

Ok guys, how bad will the fishing be due to the fish kills? I know that no one knows for sure, but give me some guesses as this storm may have the same effect that Andrew did on the bass fishery in South LA.

Well if it's as bad as Andrew, you won't be doing any bass fishing in the basin for a few years. Up on the Henderson end may be better, I hadn't heard any reports from that area yet. Also the marsh may come back sooner but after Ike with all the flooding it may be just as bad.

You had better plan some trips to go fishing, Toledo Bend, Okissa and others.

Ummmm, I may go back to playing golf full time again. I can't see keeping a new boat if those scenarios play out. We got spoiled by being able to fish reservoirs and lakes for the last 7 years that produced great results year in and year out. I hated Ross Barnett in Jackson, but it was better than anything that we have fished down here yet, numbers and size, and now it gets worse. Man, that sucks, I hope it is better than we think it will be.

No better on Henderson. Jason, you can still hit False River, Old River, or start fishing for some reds. Get some salt on that Blazer.

Yeah, I just talked to Ricky and he said that Henderson was bad as well. Alan, where is Old River? I am not much on the Saltwater fishing, never have been.

Old River is north of Baton Rouge off of La 1. It's an oxbow lake like false river. It is about a half hour north of false river.

    Re: I have a question?? (Rebel1)

Jason, i don't think we will know til next spring how bad it really is. Actually after andrew we caught a lot of 13 inch fish. I think if we get high water again it will recover faster. When the basin was at its best you had very high water from january to june/july. when that happens the basin explodes, like it was beginning to do before the storms. This year from January on the fishing was pretty good both in the basin and the marsh. Fairly easy limits most trips especially in the marsh. Give yourself a couple of years to learn the area and you will be able to be productive even in the bad years.

    Re: I have a question?? (Rebel1)

Jason dont worry its about time to start fishing lakes st. john, concordia, and bruin. not a bad drive to concordia or st john from your place and they are nice lakes. got false river which alot of folks hate but i have 3 over 10 lbs on my wall from there. old river is an oxbow that is affected by the mississippi and i am not sure at baton rouge gage when the river is out of it but I think its 18' at baton rouge reading. The east pearl was not hurt too bad from the reports i am getting and if it wasnt the west and west middles should be ok. That area has a marsh as well and did hear it was hit hard, but above hwy 90 i hear is still ok. Soon as i get some good reports on the pearl and delacroix i will let you know. i may go to delacroix this week.

Your just gonna have to get used to the extra boats stealing your fish.
