    Fishing at Toledo Bend

It has been about 20 years since I've been to Toledo Bend. I have no idea where we were fishing nor where we stayed.

For basically a first timer up there, where would you recommend to stay and which area(s) to try. I am thinking in March sometime.

I would also like to avoid any big tournaments up there(if possible)

My other thoughts were to hire a guide depending what i find out prior to going.
All I remember was it being deep out there especially compared to what I get to see around Houma. Thoughts or advice anyone?

Re: Fishing at Toledo Bend (MisterE)

Andy just about anywhere should be good. In March I would have to say mid-lake would be my choice(either N or S of Pendleton bridge). Texas or La. side doesn,t make any difference. Check Lakecaster as there are a ton of big T,s in March.
Stay away from a guide named Maurice Jackson The rest are ok. Good luck TBJ

Re: Fishing at Toledo Bend (Catt)

This time of the year, its hard to go and there not be any tournys. It's possible you will have a hard time finding somewhere to stay as this is the "prime time" for TB. Might be a little easier if you go during the weekdays. There are alot of good places around. I usually stay around midlake area at Shady Oaks Lodge in Lanana Bay. Love the cabins. Next time i think it will be the south end at the state park.

South T-Bend State Park is very nice and you are just a short run from Six Mile and Housen.

I have seen Joe's site and considered it to get "jump started" in the area and learn what techniques to use.

    Thanks for the replies.

MisterE-The TOBI which has 600-700 boats is March 14-15 and there is an Angler Quest I think it is out of Alpine that Saturday as well. The LOBI will be the 1st weekend in March and will have about the same no. of boats. And of course there will be a lot of prefishing going on. These guys are right-probably no weekend without a tourney this time of year. Good luck-Eddie

Re: Fishing at Toledo Bend (preacher ed)

Finally was able to book a cabin at South state park. They had shut down their reservation system for 2 weeks. Will be going first week of April! Now that I have the reservation done, I'm totally psyched about going

Called Joe and he is booked for the 4 days I will be there. Just so happens its the La Oilmans tx that weekend.

Bought a nice map of the area and talked to several people at work about the area so I feel more comfortable. Thanks for all the info

They look nice on the outside, just haven't seen the inside. The only thing i don't like is that there is no dock to tie the boat up to while in the cabin or not enough space to park truck and trailer. Hope i'm not discourging you. I think we will have a family weekend out there this summer.

Re: Fishing at Toledo Bend (Robert)

I have no doubt about they are nice i just hadn't seen the inside. Couldn't comment on that. I talked to him on IM and told him that people were beaching on the bank and tieing up to trees. When i seen them the other weekend i thought there would have been a dock or something to tie up to.

I've never been to STSP, But the North Park has grass to beach on. Been there a few times. The cabins are NICE, plus dirt cheap.
