    NEW ProXS 200

what's the difference other than some stickers ? Is this merely marketing to compete against the E-Tec HO ?? From the spec's on Merc's site the only thing I can see that is different is the dry weight which is about 8lbs, therefore I suspect something different or those are some frickin heavy stickers.

Merc techs give us the inside scoop ....

    Re: NEW ProXS 200 (cglenn)

Does have carbon fiber reeds, a quieter air attenuator, and a "maximized" calibration. Very little, if any difference from the standard 200 Model. Averages about 220hp at the propshaft.

This model was intended as a "market competitor" in the 200HP High Perf category.

    Direct from Mercury's product release:

You asked for it so here it is - the 200hp OptiMax with Pro XS graphics to make it more attractive to bass customers. The OptiMax 200 Pro XS targets the 18' - 20', 200 hp max rated hulls - providing superior performance over a standard 200 hp outboard. Available only as 20-inch model.

    Carbon fiber reeds
    Improve performance and efficiency
Are more durable and responsive than stainless steel
    RPM range of 5000 - 5750
    Unique Attenuator
The intake silencer allows more air in while at the same time reduces overall noise
    Exhaust port tuning
Cylinder port is designed to let exhaust out - allowing the engine to build more torque and horsepower
    ECM Tuning
Fuel flow and spark advance are set for maximum power output and efficiency
    Engine Type V-6 60°
Displacement 185.9 cu. in (3032 cc)
    WOT RPM Range 5000 - 5750
    Fuel System 2-stage DFI
    Alternator 60 amp
    Gear Ratio 1.75:1
Shaft Length 20 in (508 mm)
Dry Weight 505 lbs (229 kg)

    Re: NEW ProXS 200 (EuropeanAM)

would the performance increase be worthy to upgrade an 2008 200 opti with the new 200 proxs parts or is the gain negligible and money would be better spent elsewhere.

I would think that the carbon fiber reeds may be worth something.

    Re: NEW ProXS 200 (cglenn)

Personally.... I would not get rid of a perfectly good "Standard 200 Opti".

The performance increase would be "negligible" (less than 1 mph).

Now if I were BUYING a new one.... I would definitely consider the 200 ProXS.

    Re: NEW ProXS 200 (EuropeanAM)

I allways felt like the biggest problem with the 200 Opti was the 5750 max rpm. I can't believe the 200 ProXS still has a 5750 Max rpm when all the other ProXS motors have a 6000 max including the 175 PorXS.

It HAS to have this limit. The 200 was a VERY stout 200 to start with... pushing the 200hp (10% margin allowance) limit. If the limiter was higher.... it would have been rated as a 225.

SO if Eric was to adjust the limiter in the ecm we could gaina few ponies w/o any other major changes ???
