A buddy of mine has a 250 pro xs that runs fine except on initial take off it is real slow out of the hole but when on plane it seems fine. Had it checked by dealer couldnt find anything wrong. Any ideas what it could be??

What prop? If it is a Tempest Plus remove a vent plug and run it. That should do the trick.

ASIDE from the holeshot issue.... what are his WOT RPM's getting to? Any recent change in this RPM? Any recent setup changes (prop, engine height, jackplate, setback, etc)?

What we need to know is what it will achieve NOW (not usually). This is a critical piece of information in proper diagnosis.![]()

Ok. Let's find out a couple more things:
1. What boat is this on?
2. What prop is he running?
3. How was the boat loaded?
4. What were the weather conditions (temp, rain, humidity, etc)
5. What is the "Maintenance History" on the engine (hours, when last serviced).
Doesn't sound like it's too far off on the top end... within "RPM Range" anyway. I prefer to see the 250 ProXS between 5800-6000 RPM's for most installations.
Weather, humidity, temperature, and boat loading will have an impact on RPM figures, however.![]()

201 stratos
tempest 27 pitch
boat was loaded livewells full tournement last night
low humidity high about 86 clear
130 hrs was in the shop two weeks ago to look at this problem the tech said everyting was good plugs and all. no error codes on computer.
I'd be looking at THREE THINGS on your engine (if were in my shop):
-Spark test on ALL SIX cylinders- utilizing the "auto self test- spark plugs OUT of cylinder head" feature on the Computer Diagnostic System.
-CAREFUL inspection of spark plugs, specifically looking for any "lengthwise lines" in the porcelain that surrounds the electrode (indicating a crack, and need for replacement).
-A pressure test of the air system & direct injectors to confirm there are not leaks in the system.
-Visual inspection inside the Intake Plenum for any debris (including yellow plastic plugs) that might be blocking off reed block sets.

THIS COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM!
This access plug, when missing, can allow water to "backwash" into the cowling, shorting out electrical plugs for the lower cylinders (coils, direct injectors, fuel injectors, plug wires, etc. etc).
Obtain a replacement ASAP.... in the meantime, AT LEAST put a piece of "duct tape" over the opening!![]()
Would be a very good idea to have all the connectors "dried out"... and allow the engine to "sun-bake" for several hours (with the cowling off) to dry out any remaining moisture.![]()

For this time of year with a 250 ProXS on a loaded 201XL Stratos you are running about as good as you can expect. I run a 250 ProXS on a 200XL and I am not running very much faster than you are.
that plug seemed to fix the problem. fished for 14 hours yesterday not one stutter in the engine all day. thanks for the help![]()
