venture with a 1987 johnson motor he is wanting to repower
will he still be able to use his gages and control box with a
new johnson 150 or 175? thanks for the help guys.

As long as he goes with a Johnson he can use his old rigging with the use of a adpter. He will not have all the warnings that the new engine offers. If he goes Evinrude it needs to be changed.
