Twenty-year-old Joshua Brian Coman made the plea yesterday to criminal sodomy on an animal.
Judge Randy McEwen also ordered Coman to pay $300 in fines and to undergo a mental evaluation.
Police say several witnesses reported seeing Coman last weekend sodomizing the animal, which they described as a Rottweiler-type dog. A veterinarian later examined the dog's injuries.
Prosecutors say sodomy is a crime in Kansas with sodomy of an animal falling under the same criminal statute as that between consenting adults. The crime is a felony when it involves a minor.
