What Happened to my Low Oil Alarm???

Don: As you know, with your help I installed the 6 gauge Smartcraft gauge kit on my '07 Triton 215X w/ a 250 ProXS. All has been well, but I checked my oil the other day and the remote tank was basically empty!

It was definitely below the level where I know the alarm sounded on me once before. I did not get an alarm from the horn or Smartcraft gauges.

    Any ideas?

Oil alarm will only go off when the level in the on board (motor) reservoir drops.. It don't take much of a drop either..

    Yep...what Lou said...

Did you also add the sending unit for the oil tank in the boat? If not, SmartCraft won't tell you anything about the level in that tank...

Correct. Smartcraft (and warning horn) alarms are configured to warn for the ENGINE MOUNTED oil tank only.

The Remote Tank (in the boat) can be set up to read "level" on your Smartcraft System on the "Tank 2" harness, which will allow you to read "basic oil level" in your oil tank (provided you have the sensor in your oil tank).

Re: What Happened to my Low Oil Alarm??? (EuropeanAM)

Thanks guys. I did not install the SmartCraft sender in the oil tank, so I should still have the original horn alarm. What concerns me is that before I installed the SmartCraft system, the horn alarm sounded on me once before when I could still see a little oil in the botom of the remote tank. It was below that level (I couldn't see anything in the remote tank) and I still didn't get an alarm, so I was concerned that the SmartCraft install may have somehow overiden the original horn alarm.

perhaps for some reason that time the oil wasnt getting picked up and sent to the motor.....and the level in the motor tank went down?? I dont really know

    Rich:

Do you still hear a "test warning horn beep" on keyup? You should.....

It's a good idea to get in the practice of checking your oil level at each "fuel fillup"... and top off the remote oil tank anytime the level falls below 1/2.
