    225 ProMax questions.

Today I picked up my new to me Procraft SP200, with a 2000 Mercury Promax 225. The engine has not been used much over the last 2 years. I was just wondering what steps should be taken to bring this engine out of it's hibernation. Are there any items on these engines that are frequently replaced? Any other just general advice about this engine would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The Pro max is a GREAT engine BUT are prone to have piston locater pin failures. I rebuild tons of em a year that has been blown up due to these pesky pin failures. Can cost as much as $3500.00 to repair it you procrastonate and wait till it fails..Up grade con rod bearings , upgrade rod bolts, top pin the pistons remove the VRO oilers and all the electrical spark advancers, antil knock, and fuel alarms and you have a bullet proof motor. Built 2 last week they should make over 250 HP on pump gas and live longer than a stock motor..
