    Drop Shotting?

How many of you guys do it? What hooks do you use? I have done it very little but when I have I've been successful. Yesterday I went out and consistenly caught fish for about 4 hours. I was using a Gulp smelt. I caught several fish and would have managed a lake limit of 16" fish. I lost a smallmouth right at the boat that would have been 4lbs or better. I was using Gamakatsu drop shot hooks and was wondering if the small size of the hook was the reason I lost it? Any suggestions?

One time I was drop shotting out of a walleye boat on Milford in March and fell in the water!!!! This dudes boat had one of those sit down type seat on the front deck. I set the hook and the seat caught me below the knees and in the water I went. If was freakin freezing!!!!! I went completely under!!!

I’ve got some of the stand out hooks, they look good and seem to stand straight out. I’ve still never caught a fish on the drop shot though http://www.standouthooks.com/

    Re: Drop Shotting? (Hydrilla Gorilla)

I like fishing it, but overlook it too often... Very effective! Forgot to mention earlier... While fishing the drop shot yesterday I caught 4 HUGE bluegill in 27 Ft. off water... Im talking gills that went damn near a pound a piece.

I've done it occationally but not a whole lot, when I do I love the standout hooks I think I use size 2 or 4... Powerbait has an awesome looking dropshot minnow, I use the Zoom Meathead's too.

    Re: Drop Shotting? (tritonryan)

I use the #2 gammy red hooks, zoom finesse worms, trick worms or whatever strikes my fancy. Robo worms are charging hard. Extreme patience is needed here, that I have issues with sometimes My confidence is coming up on this as I am catching fish on it.

    Re: Drop Shotting? (Whiteranger)

I've always caught fish doing it but they are always small May have to try putting bigger baits on there...

I would mark structure with fish and just fish the hell out of it. I did catch alot of small fish on it, but they would hit it on the way down. The bigger fish all came from 19-30 ft.

    Re: Drop Shotting? (beetle)

Brad.......I have found that you can put heavier/lighter weight on that when you are starting to target them like that.........I fished TR like that a few years ago and it was cool.......found a couple locations holding fish......changed bait size and fall (lighter DS weight).....and it was like fishing a whole nothing area too bad It didnt last long.....we culled through a lot of non*keepers to get a good one too........but after he figured them out we were getting bigger fish
