    Advice XD50 Versus XD100

We are having our 60hp e tech fitted next week and will have to make a decision on the oil. E techs are only starting to catch on in Ireland so first hand experience of the differences in performance between XD 50 and XD100 is thin on the ground.

The dealer has told me that we would be better off using XD 50 because if we happened to run out we could use a high grade similar type oil. He also said that once we use XD100 we are limited to using that specific oil unless we reprogramme the e tech to take XD50. Is this true and even if it is true is it such a big deal to do?
    Which oil would people recomend?

We run our engine for approx 100 hrs a year travelling distances anywhere between 2 miles and 15 miles at a time.

    Colm,

I have a 75 e-tec and use XD100 oil, in my view if you only runn 100 hrs per year just buy a gallon and that may even do you for the year

When i changed over to XD100 from xd50 it used less oil. Not positive on the 60's but it was very little difference in cost for my running time to worry about it.

deleted63 will fill you in on the techno stuff side of it though.

But if you told me you had a litre left in your tank i would be able to ship you some from Australia before you ran out.

    Good luck with your motor.

    cheers Tony

What Tony said!!! The program for the xd-100 uses so little oil that you can find it about anywhere. That is after the X amount of hours running above a certain rpms. The gurus can give you the technicals of it!

    Colm,

Just a little update, I just got my 75 E-tec back from shop, Had the idle changed a tad.

Got my hours checked and the motor has done 128 Hrs, 48Minutes to date. I have not gone through my first 4 litre of oil yet. Saying that i used the Cheap stuff untill the motor had gone through its double oil use up to about 12 hours and after that changed over to XD 100.

My advice get the Xd100 you will be happier and cost is not an issue.

    Good Luck,

    Cheers Tony

Yes Rusty, i was supprised when i got the computer printout of the hours, Because the Dam BRP hour gauge is the only one that gets condensation in it and dont work sometimes.

Can not fault it at all. Considering my Donk was about number 3 in Australia of the 75's i love it.

And i reckon my Trolling motor has double the amount of hours on it. And if i didnt have a job they all would have triple the hours Oh and most likely no wife either must Obey the boss

    cheers Tony
