Summer like conditions greeted the 126 anglers that converged on Smithville Lake to fish the first 2007 event for the Mid States Tournament Association (MSTA). Smithville Marine put a lot of effort in to pairings and details to make this first of five qualifying tournament run smoothly. The MSTA has had a loyal following the past few years and is growing each year, with this tournament having a total of 63 boats on the day. The MSTA is a unique tournament in that it is a draw tournament that ends up fishing like a buddy tournament, the boater and the non-boater combine their fish together for the teams total. A maximum of five fish are brought to the scales for the team. It has become a very popular format for anglers, with a very laid back attitude, the boater and the non-boater encourage each other to catch fish, unlike a pro-am tournament, which makes for a very enjoyable day for both anglers in the boat. With a $120.00 boater entry fee and $65.00 non-boater entry fee, it is a very cost friendly tournament for local anglers.
With a total of 5 regular season tournaments and a Championship at the end of the year that will award the winning Championship boater a new Stratos 285 Pro XL with a 150 Evinrude E-tec Motor professionally rigged by Smithville Marine and the non-boater Championship winner taking home a $1,000 in cash and a fully transferable $2,500.00 certificate for the purchase of a new Stratos boat at Smithville Marine, it is the most affordable and most enjoyable circuit in the Midwest that offers the chance to win big in the end! Each qualifying tournament also offers big cash incentives for anglers running boats purchased from Smithville Marine.
