Honda Rectifier problem/question

I have a 50hp Honda motor, 2000 model. I had the boat out this weekend fishing and noticed the Tachometer stopped working, it will spike to 2-3 sometimes and then drop to 0. Also noticed the battery gauge seemed to stopping working when running the motor.

So called mechanic, he mentioned rectifier, I took it up just for him to look, he can't check anything until Monday, with spring fever, the boat shop is packed!!!!

My question is this, can I run the motor safely to fish this weekend? He suggested NO, but I am stubborn and really want to fish. I could even make short runs and lean on the trolling motor all day.

Any suggestions or tips until Monday? Thanks Guys!!!

When I had the mechanic look, he noticed there was one wire that appeared to be "hot" and was melted.

Boat runs fine, starts fine.

If you have a melted wire I wouldn't run it. You don't want to catch the motor on fire running down the lake.
