97 Fastrike...still getting air in lines

Championman - I have replaced gas lines and bulb all the way from the tank to the motor including the little yellowish glass thing inside the bellpan. When I run it on the muffs I am still getting some air in the glass...what else would cause air to flow through the lines toward the tank? Would fuel pump or fuel pickup do this? What about a carb leak? It only chokes off when put ingear but i can push the choke in and it runs properly.

also the tilt/trim has started acting up just randomly trimming up or down. i am wondering if these are related such as a switch or relay.

Just my 2 cents. I have the same motor and bought all the BRP parts and even had the dealer put the factory clamps on the BRP bulb. I wasn’t having and had never had one issue with fuel and kick myself for replacing them but they were looking old and a bit dry & cracked, again mines a 96.

So here is the rest of the story. I consider myself pretty good with most mechanical things and have probably put on 250 hose clamps in my life BUT I NEVER seen more problems with leaks than in the fuel line on my Intruder.. The SS worm type clamps on the tank and the BRP Ball was leaking in air. I was able to find the problem with a piece of clear line when I was siphoning out the gas to remove the tank.

The BRP bulb would never hold unless it was pointing up unlike the old OMC original one that stayed hard anytime.

Moral of all this, Check all the clamps again and if you are using the worm type clamps make sure they don't have the small flat spot for the screw that’s where mine where leaking. Now i have 2 on every connection at 180’ apart.

so you are saying that nothing else would be causing this problem?

Bubbles are coming in from the tank. You may get some small ones but shouldn't get large ones and many of them. Worm clamps aren't suggested for use due to the chance of over torquing and the chance of cracking the plastic components. Use BRP Ratchet clamps, or Zip ties, they are all curved and can't be over torqued. If you are poking around where the wire harness comes into the motor it is possible that you may have chaffed a wire. Pickup in the tank, threads on water separator not sealed (if equipped) bad seal on tank.

Also did you use aftermarket hoses and bulb for BRP original equipment? And did you use 3/8" ID line?
