    Kind of slow so...

I know this is a Bass fishing site, but head's not in it this days.

Any of you guys bow hunt? I know some of you do already. I'm going on my first Elk bow hunt in about 55 days. This should be quite the trip. 3 of us Dumba$$s are going to CO., unguided on public forest, area that we have never been before.
I sure seems to hot to hunt.
Anyone killed an Elk with a bow?

Never bow hunted before. I've seen some stud bulls in southern colorado couple of times around the durango area, I think thats right. What area are you going?

Nothing like posting and running. Sorry

Duff, we're going to go between Durango and Pagosa Springs. Going for 10 days, camping the whole time. It should be a great time even if we doing stick one.

Thats probably the most amazing sound in the wild is a bull elk bugle. We have friends that live around farmington New Mexico (NW corner) and we would go into that southwest corner of colorado to go camping. Seemed like we would see elk pretty often. Good luck.

Not sure that I would try to tackle the field dressing of a half ton animal by myself the first time. A couple guys I fish with Elk hunt. They take the guided firearm trip though. I plan to go within the next 5 years. Here are pics of their trip last year.

Do you use scentloc clothing or scent shield clothing? also, have you ever set up a tree stand for Elk? If not, that is the best way to get one, your not walking around spooking them, they come to you. Its pretty neat because you will have shots at 15 yards. Thats the only way we hunt them, we hunt near agular colorado......you should try it out

Re: Kind of slow so... (Bassman25)

I have never used a Treestand. We always have hunted in pairs or threesomes, with one or two guys calling from 50+ yards behind. I think a stand would be great on a wallow or a good trail. Want type of areas would you hang stands?

No, we don't use scentlock. I use spray on scent neutralizer and play the wind. I don't think the scentlock would help to much the way we hunt to to the fact that we hike a lot and get very sweaty every day. If your in a tree stand that would be different.
