    Dad's Turkey

Took my dad turkey hunting Saturday morning and he shot a pretty good bird. They weren't roosted where I thought they would be and we had to make about a 3/4 mile hike up a ridge to get to them, but after sitting down for roughly 3 minutes and calling a few times this dude came on the run looking for love. Shortest time I have ever sat.

    Re: Dad's Turkey (TimS)

After that we moved a mile or so down the creek and walked back in, sat down and called and immediately got an answer. After about 20 minutes of calling he wasn't coming much closer so we got pretty aggressive with the cutting/purring and that brought him a lot closer in a hurry. Unfortunately it brought one of his girlfriends in as well. They hung up about 80 yards and after 20 minutes of gobbling and cutting back and forth with the the hen it was obvious he wasn't coming any closer. He started to drift the other direction so I dropped into the creek and walked the 3/4 of a mile to get in front of him. Got set up, started calling, and he immediately answered. Came right down the ridge where he was supposed to but I only had about a 3 ft. window to shoot. He stopped right there, I pulled the trigger, and all I got was "click". Firing pin hit but I had a bad shell. The noise and flinch sent him scurrying before I could get another shell in. Was the biggest bird I'd had in my sights in a few years...

That is a nice bird. So are you and Duff done hunting now that you each got 2?? Or you still gonna go out with your dad?

I'll go as long as I have people with tags to go with. I just love watching them walk through the trees.

Boss still needs to shoot one and one of his kids does too. Plus dad still has another tag. Lots of hunting left to do.
