    KS Clubs

Hey guys, I'm new to this site, and new to being a boat owner

I am extremely interested in competing in tournaments in and around the state of Kansas, and am wondering what are the best club/s to join in Kansas? I live in Overland Park, do most of my fishing in the Miami, Douglas, Johnson & Wyandotte County area, but now that I have a boat, I think my range may be expanding. Before, I had to go to waters I knew were relatively easy to fish from shore, so THANK GOD I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance for your help

    Re: KS Clubs (IFinallyBoughtABoat)

If you are looking for an entry level T the ABA (American Bass Anglers) T's are the ticket. I have been doing them for a year now & are a good learning experience. I fish disctrict 61 at Milford lake. Membership is $25 & T's are $55 for 1 day & $110 for 2 day & district championships. You are allowed a points system that is the same all over the country. If you place in the top 500 you go to Nationals. There are some ABA members here on the BBC other than myself. Go to http://www.americanbassanglers.com/ & find out more........You can fish your local BASS federation too if you want.

    Click on this link: http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=41406

I believe there are several clubs very close to you that are Federation affiliated clubs. I highly recommend joining one of them!

I would also say go with the ABA. I fish them a lot and took the Rookie Of the Year award for D58 this season. Just email me if you want to check out the local sistrict site. Also, you say you fish Miami co a lot. You should go on to Linn county and hit the East lake, some nice fish in there.

    Re: KS Clubs (Caugh1)

    Hi Brian.
Well I've already talked to Bruce when I caught word earlier this year he was getting Triton boats & mentioned you were a staffer. I also saw that you were running a district after I started this year. Unfortunately I have been unable to attend any Saturday T's this year due to my wifes work schedule. I was planning on going to Mozingo on 6/25 but was unable to make that one too. I will check out the schedule for 2006 but I do like to fish Milford lake....It's a pretty good lake to fish & it's not too hard on the pocketbook for gas. It also looks like I will have to buy 3 licenses to fish D59. I'll see what can happen next year.

    Later, Ryan.

Sounds good Used to fish in the Kansas Lakes but with 3 other district plus Colorado as well just seemed like to many Districts in the state. hope you can fish a few. D59 has been around for about 11 years, Bob Walla used to be the Director until 2 years ago when he asked me to take over. Should be getting some toons here in the next few weeks!!!!!!

Talked to Mike last night at the Wed. night T, sounds like there should be a decent turnout. Some of the Wichita guys are coming up and several of the guys around here are fishing. I'm headed to LOZ and Party Cove for the weekend otherwise I'd fish it or the other T at Milford this weekend.

Tim, Thanks for the "remark" I would like to get back down to Milford and fish but work here has been crazy plus with my own District trying to get things in order for next season which starts in Sept. I sure am glad Mike took over D61 he's a great fit for the ABA. Hope to see you soon. Brian

    Re: KS Clubs (Caugh1)

    Brian,
It looks like your district is going all over the place next year, IA, MO,SD,SW-NE.

I think your choices of lakes are very good & a couple of them I have not been to. But the one thing that keeps me in D61 is that Milford & Tuttle Creek are only a 2-3 hour drive for me. I am on a tight budget when it comes to T's & maybe when I have a little extra in the future I can consider doing D59. Right now I'm just not able to drive too much with gas prices & other expenses it takes to fish a T.

Please do not take offense to what I have said but I would be more inclined to fish D59 if we had some T's closer to this area, not saying that we actully have really good lakes around here to fish but Wagontrain, Burchard & Milford lake might be a few to consider.
I don't mind driving a little but it gets very difficult to work M-F till 5:30 to 6pm & drive from here to a lake 200+ miles away, get no sleep & expect to consentrate on fishing the next morning. I have even tried going home, going to bed ASAP & waking at 2-3am to get on road & that is hard also. Longest drive I made was Friday night from work straight to Table Rock. Got 2.5 hrs sleep to fish 8 hours. Now I did stay that night at TR & drive back Sunday but it was still a little grooling.

    Re: KS Clubs (tritonryan)

No offense taken, Ive got to go where I can get good fields! Mozingo is only 2 hrs from Lincoln, 3-mile is just a hair over 2 hrs from Lincoln. I have got to drive there to also. Milford would be great but again you already have 2 district that fish that lake. I had My 2-day there last year. Francis case we hold over a 2 day period and usally around the free fish weekend. plus we usally fish with D60 so you can get 4 tournaments done in one weekend. Burchard, wagontrain are out being they are 21" limits and I would have to have a paper Tourn. I totally understand again I have to drive to these places to but I am getting guys to fish and having good sized fields. I avg. this year around 14-16 anglers. 3-mile and Mozingo attract the most. Guys want the fuller fields for points for nationals. Sorry for the long post. My District is growing by fishing new bodies and getting new guys each tournament to fish. I try and keep the distance to just under 2 1/2 hrs except for Francis case. But like you said there ain't alot of "great" water to fish around here to hold a tournament.

    Re: KS Clubs (Caugh1)

How good the fishing off of Mizzo. I know there are bass in there but think they would be hard to find in certain area's. I have never fished Monzigo or 3-Mile. I did have a weekend trip a few years ago to Rathburn Lake but did not have too much luck there....then again I didn't know as much about fishing then as I do know also. I might consider a few in D59 next year. I would really like to go to Red Willow but will have to make a weekend of it. Okoboji will be a good drive too. Have you fished Brushy Creek before???
