I thought this was pretty interesting.

This is a update from Yam on some E15 teat that was run.

The US. Department of Energy office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable energy recently released the results of two nstudies on the effect of using fuel that is 15 % ethanol, in volume in marine engines and the report showed significant problems with outboards, sterndrive and inboard engines, the national marice manufactures association reported.

The studies were conducted on engines provided by Volvo Penta, Mercury Marine. The energy department approved the final analysis of the results.

Results of the report show severe damage to engine components and an increase in exhaust emissions, reinforcing the recreational boating industrys concern that E15 is not a suitable fuel for marine engines, the NMMA said emissions and durability testing compared E15 fuel and fuel containing zeropercent ethanol and examined exhaust emissions, exhaust gas temperatures, torque, power, barometric pressure, air temperture, and fuel flow.

Speciaically, the report showed degraded emissions performance outsideof engine certification limits, as well as increased fuel consumption on the engines using E15 fuel. In separate testing on engine durability, each testedengine showed deterioration, including two of the three outboard engines, with damage severe enough to prevent them from completing the test cycle. The E10 test engines did not exhibit any fuel_related issues, the NMMA said.

Current proposals by the ethanol industry to increase the amount of ethanol in gasoline should seriously concern all boaters and owners of other small engine equipement, "NMMA president Thom Dammrich said in a statement. " Although NMMA strongly supports renewable fuels as a means to reduce Americas dependence on foreigh sources of oil and improve the environment, there is growing evidence that ethanol is not the answer to Americas energy challenge.

I seem to remember reading an article in Bassmaster about some outboards being tested. One was a 225 2 stroke, another was a 250 4 stroke, and the last one was a 4 stroke something or other. All four were ruined after a time after running E15. They said the 2-stroke disintegrated. Or maybe it was E20? Sounds kinda bad to me.
