I don't know of any that outlawed the TAR, but I do know that Tennessee you can only have 3 hooks and Indiana you can only have 2. Both were laws that have been in place for awhile, though.
Not sure that is correct about TN. I think it has something to do about hook size. And if it is true, a bunch of guys in the everstart championship would have been in trouble!
We all knew the rules during the Everstart. In Tn waters, if you threw five baits, then it could only have one bait with a hook. If you threw only three baits, then it could have hooks in all three. Ky waters was ok to throw five with hooks.
I wonder how they kept the baits on the rig with no hooks? The guys I watched in TN had five baits on their rigs.....and they were catching fish..it was neat to watch the rig fly through the air.
speaking of this in Indiana.
I heard that you are only suppose to have 2 trebel hooks on you bait as well. then the question was asked about spooks and jerk baits.... there was no answer...

The Tennessee regulation covering Umbrella rigs reads as follows: �Umbrella rigs are defined as an array of more than 3 artificial lures or baits (with or without hooks) used by a single rod and reel combination. If the hook size is 6 or larger, then only one lure or bait may have a hook and that hook must be a single hook.�
This means that in its current configuration, only one of the five jigheads used in the Alabama rig may have a hook (unless all the hooks are smaller than size 6). A modified Alabama rig using three or fewer jigheads may also be used in Tennessee regardless of hook size.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency confirmed this interpretation of the regulation for FLW Outdoors.
FLW Outdoors also confirmed with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources that there are no restrictions on the configuration of Alabama rigs used in Kentucky waters.
For clarification of rule No. 12 �Permitted Fishing Methods,� FLW Outdoors classifies the Alabama rig as a lure (no different than a double fluke rig) and the method of fishing it (casting with a rod and reel) as a conventional sporting manner.
Therefore Alabama rigs may be used during the EverStart Series Championship on Kentucky Lake, but when fished in Tennessee waters they are subject to the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency restrictions outlined above.
Legal in Indiana!
You can use a lure in I Indiana with more than two treble hooks. As far as the Alabama rig is concerned, I have no idea. I think it's something that the DNR will have to address at some time though. I think you would be okay if you have only two lures on the Alabama rig that have hooks in them. More than that, who knows? The best thing is to probably ask a C.O. and see what his/her opinion is.

I don't think so. Just talked about this with a ICO. You're only OK if it has two hooks or less.

Hooks for Hand or Pole Fishing
You may fish with no more than three poles or hand lines at any one time. Each line may have no more than two single or multi-barbed hooks, two artificial baits or two harnesses for live bait.
Single- or multi-barbed hooks may be used for hand or pole lines, float or jug fishing, limb, drop or trot lines.

No states have outlawed the Alabama Rig so far. The Alabama rig does violate the statutes of a few states though.
Until its posted on the IDNR website its all hear say. Up to interpretation by each CO.
I really don't understand how they can classify it as one bait though. Just shows IN really doesn't have a clue about fishing. It needs to read like the other states and be based on number of hooks or lures.

There was some one in the shop today that said Sherm at Renegade said he will not let you use it next year in their tournaments, that is hear say so keep that in mind.
