My motor has done this twice on me in about 8 months time. It is running great but my tach will run up to 8-9000 rpm when the motor actually running around 4500-5000. Any thoughts![]()

Sounds like a bad tach. The EMM generates the tach signal but I've never seen one do that. Substitute a known good tach to find out which is the problem.

I have a '07 225 HO and it was doing the same thing. I was told that the cranking battery could be weak. I bought a Sears platnium at the end of last year and it still did it. I have mine in for the 300 hour service (even though it only has 50 hours on it) so if there is a problem hopefully they will catch it. I'll let you know what I hear.

Had it hooked up to a computer today and he set it on 2000 rpm and it would fluctuate. He said it should stay in one place. He also said not to wory about replacing it b/c the water pressure gauge will go out soon and they are both in the same unit.

Why just not fix it now if he knows there is an upcoming issue?
