1997 Johnson Faststrike ignition or powerpack problem?

My TR18 has started every so often when I try to start it for the first time that it will turn over but not start. If I keep messing with it, it will finally start and run all day, but its that initial startup. I have heard power pack and key switch...I do not lose power thats why I am thinking key switch?

The only time I lose power on it is when I "goose" it to put it on the trailer but not all the time

    It is a 1997 TR18 w a 150 johnson faststrike

Does the system check cycle through? And cycle through again? Key switch is a lot cheaper than a power pack. If that is what the boys on the dock say. Myself I'd be testing the quick start feature first. Tests are in the manual.

I am not sure what you mean by cycling through or what a quick start is? I don't have any manuals so I guess that needs to be my first move. Lol

took it by the shop this morning for regular service and told him what it was doing. he said the problem with it going on the trailer was carbs and the starting issue was power pack because it will always fire when out of the water but when u put back pressure on it being in the water thats when the problem exists.

Hope they fix you right up. The description of your issue wasn't very clear. Cyling through means your system check gauge "Cycles" through lighting the LED's on the gauge. If you looked at the pinned posts on top of the forum you would have seen the timing roller adjustment. This fixes a majority of issues with "Traileritis".
