IN work zones - slow down! New unmarked police trucks being deployed

    http://www.pal-item.com/articl...zones

The Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana State Police announced Wednesday troopers will patrol work zones in unmarked white pickups.

INDOT recently purchased three Dodge RAM 1500 trucks that will be used by ISP troopers around the state.

The trucks, which cost $32,000 each, will be equipped with police lights, sirens, radios and radio equipment and will be operated by uniformed troopers on unmarked patrol, INDOT said Wednesday.

How many tickets they going to have to write to recover the 96 grand spent on the trucks?

I always seen that Silver Cheby pickup with a hard top down around Jeffersonville. It always had someone pulled over on the northbound side busting them speedy KY'ers.

In that area of 65 it won't take but a month to pay those trucks off. If you think I'm joking you haven't been through there. That stretch of 65 has more tickets written then the rest of the interstate north.

There are more tickets written on that 1st 25 miles of 65 than the entire span that 65 covers Indiana.

My wife was going to work one morning around Derby time and seen a Chevy Trailblazer with '' DERBY OR BUST'' written in shoe polish on all the rear windows. He no sooner would finish writing a ticket and get back on 65 before he would hit the lights and nail some other poor soul. Now thats sneaky!

I bet those get paid for pretty quick. But if it even *might* make people slow down in a work zone and avoid an accident that might kill a highway worker, i say money well spent.

Remember folks...easiest way to avoid a ticket? Slow down!

I drive a three mile stretch of this part of I-65 at least twice a day, and there are very few times that I don't see at least one car pulled over. A lot of big rigs get nailed coming through there as well.

They have all kinds of undercover vehicles, I've seen SUVs, Mustangs, a pickup, and even a freakin' minivan.....and those guys on motorcycles can be hard to spot! Went through one day and they had one cruiser radaring people with four motorcycles pulling people over. They definitely make their money down here!

I'd say by the middle of next week they will have those new trucks paid for!

It is Dodge trucks give them about 600 miles and the transmission will go out...

I say it all the time, KY is what keeps Indiana in the black...they had a budget surplus this year!

Who needs a stimulus when you've got casinos and clever speed traps?!?!

My office window looks out on to 465 in Indy just south of the I69 interchange. If you are coming to Indy this weekend for the races watch your self on the highway. So far today I have seen a white truck, a silver truck, a red charger, a black charger, and this morning they had 6 motorcycles out. At one point I could see 4 people pulled over getting tickets at the same time.

Will be rolling through there Sunday morning for the race! Can't wait!

Traffic will probably be so backed up that you won't have to even worry about speeding!

The traffic on the highway usualy isn't that bad, it is when you get off the highway. I would not try to enter from the west side, there is a ton of construction on 465. The way to go is to take 65 through downtown and get off at 21st street. From 21st street work you way north to 30th street. That will take you in on the north side of the track. You can park in the north 40 for free until it fills up or in the Coke lot for 10th bucks. Have fun and pack a cooler full of cold beer. Also, in case you didn't know they will let you bring your own into the track as long as it fits under your seat. No glass, just plastic and cans.

Indiana is only in the black because Mitch Daniels keeps robbing money from the Fish and Wildlife fund and putting it in the general fund.

Yeah, I've been a few times before. That's definitely a bonus for that track!

Man, the Tony Stewart fever is always bad at that track......now with Tony and Ryan finishing 1 and 2 in the last race, it will probably be the worst it's ever been this Sunday! I would like to see Carl Edwards get a win to rebound from the last race. If Carl doesn't get it, then go Kyle Busch!

Oh no, anyone but Carl and Kyle. I would even pull for Juan Pablo before those 2. I personaly will be staying away from the speedway. I am going to IDO tonight and tomorrow for the trucks and nationwide. IMO the racing out there is much better. Sad to see NASCAR moving those races to IMS next year. I heard they are planning to run the trucks on the road course. Have a safe trip.

I agree - watching a race at the Brickyard is pretty rough...not really a fan of the track, but a friend has a ticket for me each year that I can't turn down. We always have a good time.
