After almost two years of LU problems, finally had a Magnum case installed on my 2000 Johnson 225 HO. Took it out to the lake to start the break-in and after about 15 minutes of actual run time not over 3000rpm, I was pulling into the bank and as soon as I let off the gas, I started hearing a ticking noise that sounded as if it was coming from the lower unit. Took it back to my mechanic who adjusted the shift cable, put it one the hose and started it up, didnt hear anything. Took it back to the lake and put it in the water while on the trailer and as soon as I started it, there it was again. Not a heavy knock just like something hitting a fan blade in a car. Mechanic pulled the lower unit and sent it back, they just called and said everything in the lower unit was perfect, no damage to anything. Mechanic is thinking now I have a powerhead problem possibly, just waiting to get the LU back from Alabama. What type of cost am I looking at know usually to get a powerhead broke down just to look and see what it might be, and then what is a ballpark figure to get one fixed? I'm almost afraid to ask, I'm retired and just dont have $3K laying around for another fix. I've never had issues with this motor until the LU's started going out and the replacement lighting cases in my opinion were junk, thank god they had a 3yr no fault warranty.
