    help needed

Just recieved new OEM stator for 1974 Rude model # 50473m.... Checked with boats.net and they did send the right one.... New part # 0775530.... The problem is the OEM manual shows a yellow wire and a yellow wire with a gray stripe... The old stator has yellow wire and yellow with gray stripe..... The new stator has two yellow wires.... No gray stripe on either wire.... How do you you wire this to the terminal block ??????? Don't want to hook this up wrong and fry a brand new stator.... Thanks in advance for all your help....

    Re: help needed (donwb46)

I think they decided that it didn't make any difference what coil wire went to the tack, so they don't mark it any more. On your old stator the yellow with grey stripe came out of the, looking down on the stator, left coil. It's been a long time and I'm not completly positive about this. Old age is getting a hold on me. I need more naps.

DOn't hook that sucker up until Fred or SeaHorse (or some other genius) can tell you for sure. JugHead is pretty sharp, but he didn't sound too confident on that one.

chances are that it is an aftermarket stator, but the newer factory replacements are also made by
    CDI Eelectronics

Look at your old stator before you take it off. Follow the solid yellow wire back to the stator. Make note of which side it goes to. Then look at the new stator and hook that yellow wire to the same spot on the terminal strip. The other wire will go to the spot that the yellow gray connected to. Doesn't matter much anyway as it is AC voltage.

    Re: help needed (316jughead)

Thanks guys... It is a J/R stator from BRP... It does not look like the original though... I think Seahorse is right .... Made for BRP by an aftermarket company... Came in BRP labeled box and made in USA.... Agree with Jughead that it should not make any diffrence which wire signals the tach... I just want to be sure because these things aren't cheap and I don't want to fry a new stator... Anymore advice on hooking it up ????????

With the 3 wire rectifier the yellow/grey wire also is connected to the rectifier from the strip. One stator coil powers the tach with AC, and continues on to the rectifier, another stator coil is connected to the rectifier, (the yellow wire,) the rectifier changes AC to DC. Just don't connect the two yellow wires together.

I was uncertain, had to think about it. Hey, no problem at all, I'm like you guy's stators cost money. Much better to be certain. I wonder how much was saved buy not having a grey stripe on one yellow wire.

The guy's were right, that's why I gave their comments a thumbs up. What I don't like are the one's that you never hear if they got the motor fixed and what it took to get it fixed. Not just for me but for all the guy's that read this forum.
