    Weird noise part 2

After bendix replacement and new bushing that seats into the block itself I still have the same noise. http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=763801
I took everything back apart and since I had the bendix out I thought I would bump the starter. Sure enough that is where my noise is coming from. I replaced the brushes and spring last year. What in the starter is making the crazy sound? Its driving me crazy.

Does the motor squeal when 12 volts is applied to the starter when it is on the bench? Or when it is installed in the motor?

Now that you heard the squeal from the starter itself, it may have dry bushings or worn bushings that allow the armature to scrape against the permanent magnets.

Don't forget to check the upper bendix bushing for wear that is in the plastic flywheel cover.

Re: Weird noise part 2 (ChampioNman)

Ok guys it beyond me what was going on. Maybe someone can explain it to me. First it was squealing on the bench. So after I figured it had to be in the starter. I took it apart and cleaned it and cleaned it some more. My brushes still look like new. I put it all back together and bench tested and it sounded normal again. Put it back on the motor and it fired the engine first turn and no more noise. Was it just dirty inside? I mean yes there was alot of black dust in it but nothing that seems out of the norm. Anyone ever have problem such as this. My main concern is the problem solved or is this temporary? Thanks guys for the help so far with this
