Idiots at TVA

TVA is considering stupid new regulations for campgrounds and camping sites.

Lottery for seasonal sites, half the sites have to be short term sites, all campers have to be removed for 2 weeks and the campground closed for inspection every year. This is really going to help who?

A guy from work stays at Southern Comfort year around, the owner there told him to expect an increse of up to 300% , We use to stay at Birmingham Point and the rates went up 200 bucks a year, it just got to be to much. Brought the camper home and now hardly ever use it

Basically, what this is going to do is put a lot of the seasonal campsites out of business.....they don't cater to short term campers....and now they have to give up half their lake side sites for short term campers that are not going to be there....no way some of those seasonal places can survive that not to mention the rate hikes and the fact that no one will be assured they will have a seasonal site the next year....so why buy a camper to bet on the come...just what we need in this economy...more businesses going under and more people out of work...

Wow, hate to hear this. I was just checking on places to put an travel trailer. Guess I can see how TVA can control some of the places that have ramps but what about the ones who dont have water access. My examples would be Lakeside has dockage and boat ramp, and Lakewood didn't.

I think that TVA only owns land up to 375' over that then it would/should be up to the owner. But dont go rent a lot on what I've just said, its only what I've heard over the years

Some of the campground such as Wildcat creek are completely on TVA land even though most of it is at above 375'.

Are places like Wildcat what the issue is? I'm guessing that Wildcat leases from TVA, and TVA is putting new terms into the lease agreement now, as well as a rate hike?

Is this because they gave up LBL, and now need new revenue sources? If this is their approach, they'll lose their rear ends just the same as they did with LBL. Yes jobs will be lost in the private sector, but hey, new jobs will be created in the public sector/TVA to take care of these places. It will be marked as job creation by the current political parties

Makes me sick. Times get hard and you start seeing more and more of this ridiculous crap.

Yep places like Wildcat. Wildcat is a great example of why this is so stupid. TVA used to run Wildcat Campground. They quit and leased it out since there was no money in it and not much use other than holidays with short term campsites.

I dont think lakewood is on public land administed by the TVA.

If all this comes to pass, I am glad I sold my RV at Southern Komfort last year.

I'll wish I had sold mine, since it will be worth about half as much if this happens. Who wants to pull a 38' 11,000 lb. bumper pull.

I suppose this was bound to eventually happen. The Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds around the country already follow similar rules to what have been proposed.

I also expect the TVA has been somewhat driven to react to campground operators who fail to maintain decent standards in their campgrounds/marinas or who cook the books when it comes to paying the TVA under their current lease requirements.

There are some campgrounds in the Jonathan Creek area, which may not fall under these regulations and which may have sites available to the refugees set loose under the new restrictions.
