Life is about to change.........

When my wife and I moved here almost 18 years ago we had both been in the military. We were stationed in Vegas at the fighter weapons school and we knew we did not want to raise a family there. So, it was move near her folks or move near mine. Her's were a bit out there as far as I was concerned so we agreed to move here.

Well, this week she went home because they have moved out of their house and into a retirement community, her dad was diagnosed with Alziemer's(sp?) about two months ago and her mom needs the help.

So me and the boys were supposed to drive out yesterday morning to visit. They wanted us there so he could see the boys before it really got the best of him. I mentioned, in passing, "don't you think they'd be better off near you where you could help if anything happened?"(speaking to my wife).

Well, that turned into a phone conversation that started with, "I don't think you and the boys should drive out, mom and dad are moving out by us in three weeks."

She deserves to have her parents nearby, they have been so far away for 18 years, but sheesh that was fast. Sorry for the long post but as you can see, life is about to change.

Sorry to hear Father-in-laws issues. I have been through it with parents, my Father-in-law and currently with a Brother-in-law.

Relocating them close to you is wise. Their needs will only grow as time progresses. We also have some great support agencies local.

Life will change to a certain degree, but no doubt its a good thing they are moving close. Funny how in life we end up taking care of those who took care of us earlier in life.

Mike can relate to what you are about to go threw. We had Sue's father here with us until he decided he wanted to go back to Oklahoma, he also had Alzheimer's.
My Dad also has it.

I remember as a kid my mother's Mom stayed with us after my Grandpa died for about 6 months. She had Alziemers (sp?). It was rough because she had it in very severe stages and my Mom didn't want to put her in assisted living/home. At the same time she could not provide the care that she needed.

Point is, I can understand that it will be much different for you Mike. Hopefully it will just be good for them to be close to you guys and the Grandkids.

I know it will take more from you, but I cherish that time I got with my MawMaw in the last year that I got to spend with them. It will mean a lot to your kids and wife to get that time in but will take some work and change for you. Just remember what it means in the long run.

It will all be good Mike. I know that I always wished I had lived closer to my parents as they grew older. I took care of my Mom until she passed, but she lived on her own. My Dad passed in 1981. We are going to move to be closer to our kids in about a year or so. Seems that as I get older, family means even more to me.
