Lampreys in KY Lake - when did this start?

Last weekend, I caught a largemouth on the north end of KY Lake. When I got it in the boat, I noticed a lamprey on it, and it fell off in the boat. It was about 6" long, and had a mouth full of teeth. This is the first one I've seen in KY Lake, well first time ever actually.

How long have they been in KY Lake?

since it's inception, you've just not caught enough fish to see one

I've been seeing them at least 20 years! I've seen them on bass and Crappie.

Haven't been lucky enough after all these years I guess. Are they more abundant on KY than Barkley? I fish Barkley about 75% of the time...

Several years ago I snagged a big carp on Barkley with a rattletrap. He had a lamprey on his side. It is the only one I have seen so far.

Freshwater lamprey are native to Ky.Lake,I think certain creature baits represent one to a bass and they try to kill it.

On election day my son caught a 3 pound bass and swung it overboard into the bottom of the boat. He bent down to get the bass and he said "he's taking a crap." As I turned to see the damage, he then said "NO, it's a worm!" I looked just in time to see a 8"-9" lampray wiggle straight out of that fishes butthole! I never would have believed if I hadn't had seen it.
I knew that they sucked to side of fish, but what the hell was this thing thinking?
