OK I have checked the gauge its ok per championmans help I have ohmed the sending unit its ok as well anybody got any more ideas as to why the gauge wont register as in a good point to start at to run down the problem any thoughts would be appreciated
I went through the samething on my boat. I took into my dealers shop and they replaced the sending unit. Gauge worked, but it would show empty when I still had a 1/4 tank of gas. Found out they put in the wrong size sending unit. I found out on the internet how to measure and replace them. Your float maybe bad. Measure your tank from top to bottom and subtract 1" to get your height or length of your new sending unit. good luck

At the sending unit, short together the pink and ground wire. The gauge should peg to FULL. If not, you have to trace the wires and/or check the gauge. You can jump the SENDER to the GROUND at the back of the gauge and it should peg to FULL unless the gauge is bad or not getting power or ground to it.
