Question about buying a boat in another state??

I am thinking about buying a boat from an individual seller in Indiana. What can I expect as far as taxes, transfer, ect....

I am kind of new to this so I just want to know all cost involved before I make my decision.

I bought a new boat from a dealer in TN. I lived in Kentucky. When I got back to ky and liscenced the boat I had to pay 6% sales tax on the amount I paid.

I bought a used boat from tennessee several years ago and I had to do the same thing then. I had to show a copy of the bill of sale when I went to register and I paid 6% sales tax on that.

Here in KY if you buy from an individual there is no sales tax now. If you buy from a dealer there is..

You have to fill out some sort of paperwork is what I'm being told at the courthouse but you do not have to pay taxes from individual.
