    1991 Evinrude Intruder Question

Own a 19 foot Champion with a 1991 Intruder 150HP. When I bought the boat 3+ years ago, motor was flat on the transom with a 22P Raker. The raker prop was pretty beat up and probably would be rated a 4 maybe a 5 out of 10 on the prop rating scale. Managed to hit 59 MPH with that setup at around 6,000 RPM's.

This past summer, I added a 6 inch jackplate, rasied motor up to 3.5 inches below pad, and got myself a 23P Tempest Plus. I hit 59.3 MPH at 5800 RPM's.

If anyone has or runs a Intruder of this vintage, I would really appreciate some experience and setup info.

Normal operating RPM's for this motor is 4500-5500. I seem to get over that rather easy. Does this motor have a rev limiter ?? I believe I've been up to 6200-6300 once or twice with the 22P raker. I don't want a 20 year motor to blow - I am perfectly aware that over 6000 RPM's internals can easily become externals.

Does anyone run a 24P prop on this motor ? I realize the RPM's would come down into the operating range, but would I get more/less speed with the 24P ??

GREAT motor. If you can get your hands on a 24, I think I would try one. I personally like the 4 blade props on the heavy hulls, but lots of guys running the 3 blade rakers and such with good results.

Sounds like your tach might be reading a little high. A stock power pack should have a rev limit at 6100. You need to prop out to run 5400 RPM. The horsepower drops off quick after 4800 on the 1991 models. It's easy to over trim and throw a big rooster tail, you run more RPM but the prop is not holding water, this is not good, a 2 to 3 foot rooster tail is best. A good 24 pitch prop should get you the right RPM. I have an 18 foot Cajun, hydraulic jack plate, 1991 150 Intruder, bought it new. I run a 24 pitch Raker 5400 RPM, in the summer I run a 25 pitch 3 blade old style Turbo because of the better hole shot. Good motors, just don't run it hard, should last a long time.

    I run a 25 pitch 4 blade Renegade and 6" jackplate on a Hydra-Sports LS-180(18'9") with a '92 Intruder at 68 mph(gps) at 5400rpm.

Good info guys, thanks for the input. I never would have guessed a 150HP would be able to turn a 25P prop. I have a friend that has two different 24P props (a Fury and a Trophy). Come springtime, I'll start there and see how it goes.

My thoughts also. A lot of folks condemn the 'ole Shooter, but I have found that if set properly for height and on the right boat, they do an excellent job. However, the 25 "might" be enough pitch on his particular hull.
