Went down to Paris today to check out the weigh in. Was a real fun day. We got autographs and got to talk to many of the pro. Everyone was so polite. We hung out for a while after the weigh in. We notice Ike talking to a kid. He ended up taking him out for a ride in his boat. Thought that was really cool of him to do that. All the pros were a real class act.
I have personally watched Ike put two kids from the crowd on his boat and take them fishing right after he did not make the cut. No cameras were watching and he went around the corner out of sight of the crowd. I also watched him give stuff from his boat to a group of kids. This happened in the back of the parking lot as BASS was tearing down their set. Guy gets alot of flack for how he acts ON camera but the way he acts when nobody is watching shows his true character.
I've heard that time and time again about Ike and how he just goes out of his way for the young crowd. A true promoter of the sport!
I fished with Ike for 12 hours last year while he was down to practice for the Elite tournament. He is a very nice fella.
