I have never been striper fishing on Cumberland but have a chance to go on a free trip. When is the best time to go? I have heard late October and November can be best. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure about Fall Stiper but we have done great in July on Cumberland a couple different times. We went out with DC Guide Service Captain Dan Chapel or Chapman was his name.
If you go now with someone who is on top of the fish, you can limit out quick when they get in a big school. Later in Nov and Dec i have caught them on topwaters early and late and sometimes during the day. My favorite time to go is early april through May and catch them on topwaters at night. Are you going with a guide and are you planning to use live bait?
Yes it is a guided trip. A friend won the trip and I get to tag along. We get to choose the date to go. I think the guide fishes out of Beaver Creek Marina and I assume he will use live bait.
Now up till the water temp really drops off is not bad. They should be in big schools over the old river or creek channel. My parents went with a guide friend last year around this time and limited out between daylight and 7:30am. They hit one school and 9 rods went down. Miller Tallent and Lance Sasser are two really good guides that operate out of Grider Hill Dock near my hometown of Albany.
I like around mid-Oct. to early Dec. I fish more during the spring mid-April-June. A very good friend of mine is a striper guide. He is telling me the stripers are biting right now. Going with a guide on this lake is going to pretty much guarantee you fish. The guides have their honey holes and mostly fish with live bait. They follow the fish year round so they can pretty much put you on fish. I'm sure you will have an absolute blast. If you have never striper fished before I can guarantee you'll be hooked for life once you fight a couple of theses beasts. Good luck and let me know when the fish-fry is.
He said he was booked until around the 22nd of October but we could schedule anytime after that. I can't wait! I hope we get the chance to hook a 30+ pounder.
I would schedule sometime after thanksgiving. You have a chance of catching them several ways. Stripers are much more fun to catch casting and going this time of year will be prime for casting and catching fish in the jumps.
