    Tolling Motor Issues

I have a motor guide trolling motor. Went out on Friday and it was acting up. On level 3, it was running like level 1 for most the day. Then later in the day, it was working only half the time. The switch is working just fine but the motor is not coming on. When it would come on, it would run for a few seconds at the speed it was set on, then kick back and run slow.

I pulled the plug in the front and noticed some, not a lot, of corrosion.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? Battery is brand new and fully charged.

Matt - change the plugs, then put a cut off switch back by the batteries.
MG & MK have warnings on the new ones to not leave them plugged in while being charged can fry the boards....which is not your problem.
But MG was doing the same thing....got tired of the problems and went to a MK.
I now have two cut off switches on my Triton the master and one for the trolling motor,
both get turned off after each trip.

Ed...That could be the issue maybe. I bet I charged that battery a few dozen times before ever realizing that warning label told me not to.

You think that board is what is messed up? I'll change the plugs this week and see if that helps. You have any idea how much they run?

I have a '94 Tracker, to avoid this same problem would I have to put a cut off switch in or could I get by doing what I've always done and just unplugged it after every use?

Does it sound like the board is fried from what I have explained?

Matt my suggestion would be go over to the trolling motor board and send a IM to Jonestrollingmotors, and post it there as well.
Those boards are NOT CHEAP John Jones can tell you how much they are and help you trouble shoot the problem he is the expert.

BUT I would strongly suggest you put a cut off switch near the trolling motor batteries and make sure to turn it OFF at the end of each day.....you will be able to leave the trolling motor plugged in while charging. etc.

Didn't have a chance to look at anything last night. I'll have an update later tonight though.
